8 Steps to Follow to Conduct a Quality Assessment of Your Project

You do have your project quality control plan. You think all contingencies are covered. You assume that the inspection is being conducted correctly. You think your plan is working, your customers are happy and your project is going smoothly, right? That is why it is important to conduct a project quality assessment. Your testing will tell you what's working and what's not so you can keep track of your project quality.

What is a quality audit?
It is one of the basic elements of an effective quality control plan. Quality assessment is an assessment of how well the key areas of your project plan are being followed (if any). And, whether it is effective in giving you the quality results you expect. It's basically fact-finding and should be part of your regular monthly task.

How to conduct quality reviews
Generally, you will do the onsite observation, talk to customers and project staff, and review QA/QC reports and records. The inspection is not merely relating to your work. Since your quality plan includes all project participants such as subcontractors, suppliers, and other external services, your audit should also include project participants. . Remember, many subcontractors and project owners also conduct their own inspections, and they can provide you with important information to detect quality issues.

8 Steps to Follow to Conduct a Quality Assessment of Your Project

Here are the steps you should follow when conducting an audit.

1. Talk to the customer Chances are your customer is doing its test. Talk to them about their test results. Ask them to walk the site with you to assess the quality of the site. If that's not possible, you still want to ask your customers some questions like: Are there any quality issues they've found? Have their expectations been met?

2. Walking on the construction site - assessing the quality of the works. You may have walked on the construction site and observed how the workers performed their work. For your audit, pay attention to the following areas: Is their workmanship the quality you expect? Does the employee follow the correct procedure? Do they show that they have the necessary skills to do the job? If they are handling batch-controlled materials, do you see batch identification?

3. Review quality records and reports- Next, take a trip to the project office and review your project QA/QC documents and records. There are two reasons for this part of the audit. First, you want to see if your superiors and project managers are completing and submitting all the necessary documents and reports. Second, you want to check that they completed them correctly.

4. Reviewing job duties- Now, let's get some reports. It's time to see if your inspectors are doing a good job as an inspector (qualification of inspector). With a sampling of inspection reports and nonconformities, go out and review the work that was inspected. Compare what you see on the report with your own observations. Is there anything they missed? Are the repair and punching items reported correctly?

5. Talk to field staff- The next step is to talk to your field staff to see if they have been properly trained and followed the correct procedures. You also want to learn about the standards, specifications, and drawings they are using (or in some cases not using). A good way to do this part of the assessment is to ask simple open-ended questions like, "How do you know how to install the HVAC air handler properly?" Here's what you want to know: What training have they been given; Do they have the necessary certifications if required; Do they have easy access to standards, specifications, drawings, and change orders? project orders; Are they using up-to-date specifications and standards

6. Track past audit action plan items- You need to see that progress has been made on previous inspection action items. Each month, you will see the quality of your project improve and find fewer flaws.

7. Record your findings- Make an audit report and document your findings. Keeping records will protect your company should problems arise in the future. It will demonstrate due diligence and your records will prove that you are fixing the problems found.

8. Plan your action- Finally, make your action plan. To figure out how to get better results, you need to understand why your plan isn't being followed. You may need to reinforce the importance of following a plan. Maybe your build quality control plan is too complicated to follow? If your quality plan is being followed, are you getting the quality results you expect? When you know the problem, decide on the action and plan to implement it.

Conclusion
Control of your project's quality is an ongoing process. Whether you follow a formal, highly structured process or a more conventional, less complicated approach, you need to regularly check the implementation and effectiveness of your project quality plan. Over time, all of your projects will achieve the quality results you expect with less effort from all project staff. If you need our support and advice, please contact 0848 770 777
