Foreigners working in Vietnam and paying for compulsory social insurance, can they temporarily stop paying for social insurance contributions to the retirement and survivorship fund due to the impact of Covid-19?
According to the provisions of Article 4 of Decision 23/2021/QD-TTg, foreign workers participating in social insurance in Vietnam are entitled to the policy of temporarily suspending social insurance contributions to the retirement and survivorship fund.
Thus, this support policy does not discriminate between Vietnamese and foreign workers.
However, according to Decree 143/2018/ND-CP, from 01 January 2022 onward, the retirement and survivorship benefits will be applied to foreign citizens working in Vietnam. Therefore, in 2021, there will be no cases where foreign workers are allowed to temporarily stop paying social insurance contributions to the retirement and survivorship fund. Therefore, foreign workers are not allowed to stop paying social insurance contributions due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
