Time of Application of the New VAT Law in 2025 - 2026

The revised Value Added Tax (VAT) Law No. 48/2024/QH15, passed on November 26, 2024, marked a major turning point in the tax system in Vietnam. To ensure proper compliance and maximize benefits, businesses need to clearly understand the implementation roadmap and fully prepare the necessary elements. Below are important milestones that you cannot ignore.

1. Effective date

July 1, 2025: Most of the provisions in the new law will officially take effect, requiring businesses to immediately adjust their tax declaration and administration activities.

January 1, 2026: New regulations on non-taxable revenue (under VND 200 million/year) will begin to apply, especially affecting business households and individuals.

2. The old law expires

VAT Law No. 13/2008/QH12 will officially expire from the time the new law comes into effect. This requires businesses to update new regulations to avoid errors and legal risks.

The roadmap for applying the new VAT Law requires careful preparation from businesses, from adjusting tax accounting procedures to updating new regulations. Understanding the timelines and requirements is a key factor to ensure legal compliance and optimize financial efficiency.
